Mysore's Grand Milestone: Unveiling India's Hidden Gem!
Mysore's Grand Milestone: Unveiling India's Hidden Gem! - My Unfiltered Take (SEO-Packed and Honestly, Quite Rambly)
Okay, folks, buckle up. I just got back from Mysore, and let me tell you, it was a trip. And a huge chunk of that trip was spent at Mysore's Grand Milestone – a place that… well, it’s a lot to unpack. So, let's get to it, shall we? This isn't your typical, sanitized hotel review. This is me, raw and honest, navigating the good, the bad, and the utterly bizarre – all while trying to shove in enough keywords to make Google happy. (Wish me luck!)
First Impressions and the All-Important Accessibility (and How I Nearly Ate Concrete)
Right off the bat, Accessibility. This is crucial, people. Thankfully, the Grand Milestone has some good points here. They do cater to facilities for disabled guests, and the elevator is a lifesaver. I’m not personally in a wheelchair, but seeing the ramps and whatnot made me feel good, especially knowing Facilities for disabled guests are in focus. However, and this is a big however, the signage… well, let's just say it's not exactly crystal clear. Finding my way around initially felt like navigating a particularly confusing maze – and I nearly tripped over a rogue garden gnome in the process. (Okay, maybe I was distracted by the beauty of the grounds, the Terrace and Shrine that I came across – pure serenity!) But overall the exterior corridor seemed well-maintained, so kudos for that.
On-site accessible restaurants / lounges are a win! I'm a big fan of a quick cocktail after navigating the chaos of the city.
Internet – Bless and Blast!
Let's talk Internet. This is where things get… complicated. Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! - YES! Big selling point. And the Internet access – wireless worked like a dream in my room. But for the Wi-Fi in public areas? Let's just say the signal was as temperamental as a Bollywood star. I did appreciate the Internet access – LAN, I'm old school. I tried calling the front desk and the services were overall great. But hey, at least they had Internet services!
Things to Do (and Ways to Actually Relax!)
Okay, this is where the Grand Milestone shines. This place knows how to chill. The Swimming pool [outdoor] is gorgeous, with the Pool with view a definite highlight. Spent a whole afternoon just bobbing around, pretending I was some sort of glamorous movie star. (The fact that I was wearing a slightly stained t-shirt and cargo shorts didn't deter me.) They’ve got a Gym/fitness center, but I spent more time indulging in the Spa. And, oh my god, the Massage. I’ve had massages all over the world, and this one… this one was something else. The therapist, bless her soul, managed to unknot muscles I didn't even know I had. Sauna, Spa/sauna, and Steamroom facilities abound too, but I was too busy relishing the afterglow of my massage to experience it. There is a Foot bath too! Heaven.
If you're looking for something to do, you definitely consider an outdoor venue for special events.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking: My Stomach's Rollercoaster
Let’s talk food. Because, let's be real, a hotel's gotta feed you. Restaurants - yes plural!. The Breakfast [buffet] was a sprawling affair, offering a dizzying array of options. Asian breakfast? Check! Western breakfast? Double-check! The Coffee/tea in restaurant was bottomless. And I mean, bottomless. I'm pretty sure I consumed enough caffeine to keep a small army awake. I did sample the Asian cuisine in restaurant, and the International cuisine in restaurant was excellent, but the Salad in restaurant needed work. The Buffet in restaurant was amazing, but I did have a slight issue with the Soup in restaurant, but then again I had to be picky. The Bottle of water they keep you stocked with is a great touch.
Food delivery available, and there's a Snack bar for those late-night cravings. The Poolside bar was the best place to watch the sunset, all the while enjoying Happy hour, which I really enjoyed!
Cleanliness, Safety, and the Ever-Present Sanitizer Dance
Okay, COVID times. This place is serious about cleanliness. Tons of Hand sanitizer everywhere. They’re employing Anti-viral cleaning products and doing Daily disinfection in common areas. I even got to opt into the Room sanitization opt-out available. The staff wears masks religiously and are Staff trained in safety protocol. This is reassuring, especially in these times. First aid kit, doctor/nurse on call, as well as Safe dining setup.
Rooms: My Sanctuary (and My Occasional Panic Room)
Alright, let's get to the rooms. I’m going full stream-of-consciousness here. My room had Air conditioning, thank God. It was a scorcher outside. The Bed was comfy, although the Extra long bed might not be a necessity. The Blackout curtains were a godsend for sleeping in. Loved the Coffee/tea maker, but for some reason, I had a panic and thought something was in the Mini bar, so I barely went in there. Free bottled water was a nice touch, and the Toiletries were decent.
The Desk was functional. The Sofa was comfy. There’s Internet access – wireless, but as explained, it's inconsistent. Air conditioning was a blessing. And you get the Wake-up service if you need it.
The Bathrobes were fluffy, but I didn't use mine, I brought my own. The separate Shower and bathtub were amazing, if your preference. Loved the Mirror. The Alarm clock was a bit too loud, but it did the job. The Additional toilet was great. I made sure to utilize the Closet. The Hair dryer? I didn't even touch it. The Reading light was pretty useful. The Smoke detector did its job. The Satellite/cable channels are good options to relax. The Slippers. The Telephone. The Umbrella. The Window that opens was more interesting than it ought to be.
Services and Conveniences: The Good, the Bad, and the "Huh?"
Alright, buckle up for a whirlwind tour of services. The Concierge was incredibly helpful, always there to answer questions. They offer Cash withdrawal. The Daily housekeeping kept things spotless (and sometimes a little too spotless – I swear they move your stuff!). Loved the Dry cleaning and Laundry service. The Elevator was a lifesaver. There’s a Convenience store, if you need anything late at night. If you need something during the day they offer Food delivery. They provide a Safety deposit boxes. There is an Ironing service, in case you get wrinkled. There is Luggage storage, which is also very useful. They provide a Car park [free of charge]!
They also have Business facilities, which I didn't use. There is a Cashless payment service. Contactless check-in/out. If you're travelling with a pet, note that Pets allowed unavailable.
For the Kids (and Those of Us Who Still Act Like Kids)
Babysitting service available. Family/child friendly. They have Kids facilities, including a Kids meal option.
Getting Around (and Avoiding the Traffic)
The Airport transfer service was seamless. The Car park [on-site] was convenient. They also offer a Taxi service.
The Grand Milestone – My Verdict (And the All-Important Booking Offer!)
Look, the Grand Milestone isn't perfect. It has its quirks, its inconsistencies, and moments where you might find yourself muttering, "What the heck?" But honestly, it's got character. And it's got heart. The staff are lovely. The spa is divine. The pool is a dream. The location is great for exploring Mysore.

Grand Milestone Mysore: A Trip Report (Expect Mild Mayhem)
Day 1: Arrival and the Majesty of the Maharaja (Plus, Jet Lag's Grumpy Embrace)
7:00 AM (ish) - Bangalore to Mysore: The Pre-Dawn Dash (or, How I Learned to Love the Coffee in the Roadside Dhabas)
Right, so, the airport! I’d planned on a super-early flight, all zen and ready to experience things. Nope. Found myself scrambling, bleary-eyed, cursing the Bangalore traffic (which, let's be honest, might be its own sentient being). Thankfully, the chai and spicy breakfast at a roadside dhaba saved my life (and probably my sanity). The sheer chaos of the highway, the trucks adorned with Bollywood-worthy art, the honking… it was an assault on the senses, and I LOVED it.
10:00 AM - Getting to the hotel/Hotel Check in (The initial settling-in)
Checked into the hotel to freshen up a bit, after a long journey. Immediately noticed the beautiful view from my room window. The hotel staff were courteous and helpful.
11:00 AM (ish) - Mysore Palace: OMG, It's Real!
First impressions? HOLY COW. The Mysore Palace is a dazzling, opulent, gloriously OTT explosion of history. I swear, the gold leaf alone could buy a small island nation. I spent a good hour just gaping at the intricate carvings, thinking, "Well this is why I travel!" The guide was, well, let's just say his enthusiasm was a bit… repetitive. He kept saying "Magnificent!" and "Exquisite!" about every single thing. By the end, I was half-expecting him to start chanting. Still, the place is genuinely breathtaking.
2:00 PM - Lunch: Spicy Food, Happy Tears (The Spice Gods Are Real)
Finding a restaurant was a gamble and a half. I wandered into a place, and the menu was a vibrant mosaic of curries and dosas. I ordered something, and my mouth immediately burst into flames. Delicious, glorious flames! I think I teared up a little from the spice, but hey, that's part of the experience, right?
4:00 PM - The Sensory Overload Continues: Devaraja Market
Right, so, the market. Brace yourselves. Smells of spices, mountains of flowers, the relentless haggling… it was an assault on the senses in the best possible way. I was overwhelmed, delighted, and completely lost all at once. Bought a few trinkets I almost definitely didn't need and was utterly charmed by the vendors. They taught me the art of bargaining. One vendor was laughing at my haggling skills. But, I got the deal. The whole experience was a glorious, vibrant, slightly chaotic experience. Perfect.
7:00 PM - Dinner: Eating Like a Local (And Accidentally Ordering Something Questionable)
Tried to order something authentic, but instead I ended up with a dish whose name I couldn't even pronounce. It tasted…interesting. I'll leave it at that! The waiter laughed at my confused expressions and offered me a dessert, which was amazing. Dessert always makes everything better.
9:00 PM: Falling Asleep Mid-Sentence (Jet Lag, You Bastard!)
Yeah. That jet lag hit me like a ton of bricks. I think I was mid-sentence to the hotel clerk when I just… slumped. Woke up in a daze, mumbled a goodnight, and crashed.
Day 2: Temples, Sandalwood, and a Near Disaster
8:00 AM - Breakfast: Upma and a dose of optimism
Upma for breakfast! Tasted a little bland and I added salt to it. But as I was eating it, I noticed beautiful view from my room window and realized that it's a new day, another chance to experience Mysore to the fullest!
9:00 AM - Chamundi Hill: Climbing to Glory (and Praying I Didn't Pass Out)
The climb up Chamundi Hill was BRUTAL. Seriously. The stairs just kept going… and going… and going. I was gasping for air, sweating like a pig, and questioning all my life choices. Reached the temple at the top, which was breathtaking. The views were spectacular. The air was thin. Stood for a moment, breathing in the glory.
12:00 PM - Lunch: "Vegetarian Thali" - More Than I Could Handle.
Went to a highly recommended restaurant for a proper Mysore vegetarian thali. It arrived. A mountain of small bowls. I think there was enough food to feed a small village. The variety was astounding, so many flavor combinations. My stomach felt like it was going to explode, but I ate everything anyway because, come on, EXPERIENCE.
2:00 PM - Sandalwood Sojourn: The Fragrance of Heaven (And a Near-Miss with a Very Aggressive Tourist) I went to a sandalwood factory to learn about the precious things. The scent of the sandalwood was divine. I bought a bar of sandalwood soap because I had to have it. Was admiring the carvings. A very enthusiastic tourist got a little too close and nearly knocked me off my feet. I glared at him, he made a quick apology, and then I had to take a lot of deep breaths.
4:00 PM - The Mysore Zoo The Mysore Zoo was nice place to be in. I saw the tiger, lion, elephant, and many other species. The animals are kept in the best possible conditions. The entire zoo experience was unforgettable.
7:00 PM - Dinner: Wandering Around Mysore, Making a Poor Food Decision, and Questioning My Life Choices (Again) Tried to find a place with a good vibe. I went to an empty restaurant and ordered something, but the food wasn't good and the ambiance didn't exist. The only good thing was the drink. I left feeling disappointed in myself.
9:00 PM - Packing My Bag: I spent the last few minutes of the day, packing my bag for the next day. After that, I finally went to sleep. Day 3: Farewells, Final Impressions, and The Epilogue of a Messy, Wonderful Trip
8:00 AM - Breakfast and the Morning Routine
Went down to the restaurant and had my breakfast. After that, I packed my bags and checked out of the hotel.
9:00 AM - St Philomena's Church Visited the beautiful place. I stood in awe of the architecture. The church was very beautiful.
12:00 PM - Shopping and the Trip to the Airport
Made a few final purchases at the market. They gave me discounts. Then, I made my way to the airport.
4:00 PM: Departure
Departure time. I was so excited for the trip, and I wasn't ready to leave. But, as I boarded, I know I had to say farewell to this beautiful place. I smiled to myself, looking at the window, reminiscing about all the things I did. It was a wonderful trip.
Final Thoughts:
Mysore. A city of contrasts, a symphony of chaos, and a feast for the senses. It's not perfect. There were definitely moments of frustration, confusion, and a near-constant state of being slightly lost. But it was real. It was vibrant. It was human. And I loved every messy, glorious minute of it. I can't wait to go back… and cause more delightful mayhem.
